Ripley's Game / by Kyle Vernier

Malkovich plays Ripley too out in the open about his psychopathy. He's aggressive where Highsmith's Ripley is plotting. The movie gets better as it goes but over all I found it boring and uninspired. The American Friend beats Ripley's Game in every way. Dennis Hopper's Ripley might be more spacey than the way Highsmith intended but at least his take is interesting. Malkovich actually seems kind of bored in the role. Maybe he thought a psychopath wouldn't exhibit any emotion.
