Night and the City (1950) / by Kyle Vernier

Jules Dassin knows how to put together a brutal movie. The world he builds in Night and the City is so fully realized. The city feels full of people and life, it seems at any moment the camera could take off and follow someone else and show their story. The sets and locations are perfect and feel lived and worked in, old in that way London is and America never can be. Plus there is wrestling.
